Eubanks Highlights Final Day for Upstate at Buccaneer Track & Field Invitational

Johnson City, Tenn. – Griffin Eubanks picked up his second individual victory of the indoor season on Saturday as the USC Upstate track and field team finished competition at this weekend's Buccaneer Track & Field Invitational hosted by East Tennessee State inside the Mountain States Health Alliance Athletics Center.
Eubanks was one of three Upstate runners to finish inside the top 10 in the mile run after posting a time of 4:25.59 en route to his second 1st place finish of the year. He began the indoor campaign on Dec. 1 by winning the 3000-meter run at the UNCG Six-Way Meet. Along with Eubanks, Mark Rennix and Martin Morrow both joined him in the top 10 as Rennix placed 3rd and Morrow 9th. Rennix ran a personal-best time during the race of 4:30.00 while Morrow logged a time of 4:34.27.
The women's 800-meter race also saw the Spartans take home three of the top 10 finishes led by Ashleigh Torres in 5th following her time of 2:24.03. Molly Bliss was two spots behind Torres in 7th place after running a 2:24.69 and Anastasia Kolesnitchenko placed 10th with a 2:25.28.
The Upstate women collected three more finishes in the top 10 with Jasmine Polite and Essence Jackson each having 6th place showings. Polite ran a personal-best time in the mile run seeded of 5:12.60 while Jackson also had a career-best time of 2:19.40 in the 800-meter run seeded. In the women's shot put, Alexis Jacobs attained her second top 10 finish of the weekend after turning in a 10th place performance with her throw of 12.88-meters.
Overall, the Spartans recorded seven personal-best times with all of them coming in the distance races. Joining Eubanks and Rennix on the men's side were Jacob Collins (mile run), Cameron Pratt (800-meter run), Calin Schumacher (800-meter run) and Kyle Drollette (800-meter run).
Upstate will take next weekend off before traveling up to Boone, N.C. on Friday, Feb. 20 for the App State Indoor Open.
