Polite Posts Top Finish for Upstate on First Day of CCU Invitational

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Jasmine Polite recorded a second-place finish to highlight day one of the CCU Invitational for the USC Upstate track and field team on Friday at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
Polite was one of three Upstate athletes to compile a top-five performance after finishing second in the 10,000-meter run. She posted a time of 39:53.90 for the top mark among collegiate runners in the race.
Calin Schumacher and Draneisha Griffin both collected top-five finishes as Schumacher was third in the 800-meter run and Griffin fourth in the long jump seeded. Schumacher, running in his first outdoor meet as a Spartan, had the best finish on Friday for the men after running the 800-meter in 1:59.90. Griffin added a leap of 5.65-meters in the long jump.
Upstate added six more individual finishes of 10th or better with the men recording five and the women one. The Spartan men had four of their showings come in the 10,000-meter run led by Theodore Kountourogiannis in seventh-place with a time of 34:11.49. He was followed by Alex Love in eighth (34:11.52), Mark Rennix in ninth (34:11.54) and Martin Morrow in 10th (34:11.59). Cameron Pratt contributed a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles after running a 59.76.
Keiyonna Gusby was one of three Upstate athletes to record personal-best marks as her time of 16.61 in the 100-meter hurdles was good for an eighth-place finish. KeAndrea Ladson turned in a leap of 5.28-meters in the long jump seeded and Cody Ellison logged a time of 34:11.62 in the 10,000-meter run.
The Spartans wrap up the CCU Invitational on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. with the men's and women's discus throws. The 4x400-meter relays conclude the day's events at 4:45 p.m.
