Upstate Wraps Up Weekend at Winthrop Invitational, Raleigh Relays

Rock Hill, S.C. – The USC Upstate track and field team registered double-digit top-10 performances on Saturday as the Spartans completed their weekend schedule at the Winthrop Invitational and Raleigh Relays.
Overall, the Spartans logged 10 top-10 finishes with the men and women both picking up five each.
Calin Schumacher and Ashleigh Torres turned in the top individual performances for Upstate as the pair finished fifth in their respective 800-meter run events. Schumacher posted a time of 2:03.38 in the men's 800-meter run developmental while Torres crossed the finish line in 2:20.35.
For the second straight day, KeAndrea Ladson broke her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles. Ladson surpassed her old mark by .23 seconds and raced to a sixth place finish in the finals after running a personal-best time of 14.63. She compiled a time of 14.86 in the preliminary race on Friday.
Kyle Jones added another top-10 finish for the Upstate men in the 400-meter hurdles. The sophomore had a time of 56.13 and finished in sixth place.
Destinie Sykes recorded her third top-10 showing this season in the triple jump after finishing seventh with a leap of 10.90-meters.
The Spartan men achieved two finishes of 10th or better in the 1500-meter run developmental led by Theodore Kountourogiannis in eighth place. Kountourogiannis had a time of 4:19.49 in the race and was joined by Martin Morrow in ninth with a 4:20.24.
Josh Lee joined Schumacher in the 800-meter run developmental as he finished ninth with a time of 2:04.33. Anastasia Kolesnitchenko also placed ninth in the women's 800-meter run after running a 2:22.30.
Rebecca Elliott had her best individual finish of the season in the 800-meter run developmental as she had a time of 2:29.88, good enough for a 10th place finish.
Essence Jackson competed in the 800-meter run at the Raleigh Relays and took home a 15th place finish following her time of 2:14.68.
Upstate had seven athletes attain new personal-bests on Saturday. Joining Ladson on the women's side were Storm-Alexis Gandy (1500-meter run developmental), Brittany Walls (800-meter run developmental), Kennedy Holton (400-meter hurdles) and Keiyonna Gusby (javelin throw). The men saw Donnie Hutchinson (triple jump) and Blake Hayes (discus throw) set new personal-best marks.
The Spartans are back in action next Saturday, Apr. 4 when they remain in Spartanburg for the Terrier Relays.
