Eubanks Posts Top Performance for Upstate at VertKlasse Meeting

High Point, N.C. – Griffin Eubanks had a team-best second place performance to lead six USC Upstate distance runners Friday evening during the first day of the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point University at Vert Stadium.
Eubanks was one of four Upstate runners to finish inside the top 10 in the mixed 10,000-meter run. Competing in his first outdoor 10,000-meter race as a Spartan, Eubanks crossed the finish line in 32:53.14 for his best individual performance this season. It was also his second top-10 finish of the year after running to a 10th place showing in the 1500-meter run seeded at the season-opening CCU Invitational.
Martin Morrow finished less than a minute behind Eubanks in fourth place with a personal-best time of 33:22.90, followed by Alex Love in fifth after his time of 33:53.55. Cody Ellison rounded out the mixed 10,000-meter run for Upstate with a seventh place finish following a time of 35:40.70.
Theodore Kountourogiannis also competed at the VertKlasse Meeting for the Spartans. The sophomore raced in the 5000-meter run and turned in a time of 16:03.59.
The remainder of the Upstate track and field team will take part in the Terrier Relays Saturday at Spartanburg High School. The men's steeplechase and women's javelin throw open the competition tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
