Carter's Hole in One Highlights First Day for Upstate at Sea Best Invitational

Ponte Vedra, Fla. – The USC Upstate men's golf team currently sits in 15th place following the first two rounds of the Sea Best Invitational after shooting a two-round score of 608 on Monday from Dye's Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass.
Matt Carter highlighted the first day for Upstate with a hole in one on the par 3, 203 yard 14th hole during the day's second round. According to the freshman, it was his third career ace, second in tournament play and his first as a collegiate player. Carter used a 5-iron and his approach landed 25 feet short of the hole, eventually rolling its way into the cup. He is the first Spartan since Nate Irvin at the 2010 Palmas Del Mar Collegiate Classic to record a hole in one.
Carter ended day one in a tie for 76th place after shooting a 156 with back-to-back scores of 78.
Ryan Cornfield turned in the top individual performance for the Spartans on Monday as the senior carded a two-round 146 (73-73). He is tied for 28th place with eight other players after finishing the first day with two birdies.
Sebastian Lopez Bulla sits tied for 70th with a 153 (79-74) followed by Trey Taylor, who is two strokes behind, in a tie for 74th place at 155 (78-77). Taylor White rounds out the individual standings for Upstate in 82nd with a two-round score of 159 (77-82).
Florida leads the Sea Best Invitational after two rounds with a 17-under score of 543. Individually, North Carolina's Joshua Martin is in first place after shooting a first day 8-under par 132.
The final round of the Sea Best Invitational will tee off Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
