Relay Teams Lead Spartans on Opening Day of Coach O CCU Invitational

Conway, S.C. - The USC Upstate track and field teams had a solid opening day of the season at the Coach O CCU Invitational as the Spartans scored five top-five finishes. Of Upstate's five top-five finishes, three came in relay events.

The women's 4 x 200-meter relay team of Heaven Briggs, Semaj Tolliver, Courtney Bradley and Kayla Jordon earned a second place finish with a time of 1:41.53. The 4x800-meter relay team of Essence Jackson, Rebecca Elliott, Molly Bliss and Ashleigh Torres finished in fifth place.

Desman Martin was the runner-up in the long jump with a mark of 23-02.50 (7.07 meters). Upstate scored a third place finish in the 4x200-meter relay as Tyriek Sampson, Ezequiel Sepulveda, Darius Jones and Patrick Jamison finished in 1:27.29. Theodore Kountourogiannis finished in fifth place in the 5,000-meter run.

The meet continues tomorrow at 9 a.m. with the men's discus.
