
Upstate Posts Season-Low Round to Open Play at Furman Intercollegiate

Greenville, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's golf team carded a season-low round of 289 on Friday as the Spartans finished day one of the 47th Annual Furman Intercollegiate in a tie for fourth place at the par-72, 6,994-yard Furman University Golf Course.
Upstate is currently tied with Francis Marion in fourth place after shooting a 1-over 289 on Friday. The Spartans sit just one stroke back of third place Furman and four behind Georgia State in second place. Harvard holds the day one lead with a 4-under 284.
Ryan Cornfield and Taylor White each compiled 2-under rounds of 70, and are both tied for eighth place to lead Upstate individually. Cornfield was fourth among the field in par 4 scoring after shooting a 1-under and compiled a stroke average of 3.90, while collecting five birdies on the day. White turned in his lowest round of the season and had a solid day on the course recording one eagle. He was also ninth in par 4 scoring at 1-under, and was even-par on the par 3's.
Trey Taylor, Sebastian Lopez Bulla and Tom Schofield are all within one stroke of each other. Taylor ends the first day tied for 44th at 2-over 74, while Lopez Bulla and Schofield both tallied rounds of 3-over 75. The duo is tied for 57th place heading into round two on Saturday.
Playing as an individual, Alejandro Lopez had a first round score of 84 and is tied in the standings with Ole Martin Davenger of Wofford and Wilson Yearout of Presbyterian College.
Andrew Novak of Wofford and Marshall's Logan Lagodich hold the individual lead after day one at 5-under 67. Cornfield and White are both three strokes back of the leaders.
Day two of the Furman Intercollegiate is scheduled to tee off at 8:10 a.m. Saturday morning. As a team, the Spartans are set to begin their second round at 12:50 p.m.
