
Cornfield Sets School Record, Leads Furman Intercollegiate after Day Two

Greenville, S.C. – Ryan Cornfield set a school record on Saturday by shooting an 8-under 64 for the USC Upstate men's golf team as the senior currently leads the Furman Intercollegiate following second round action from the par-72, 6,994-yard Furman University Golf Course.
Cornfield bested his old school record of 65 set last season at the Camden Collegiate Invitational and holds a one stroke lead over Harvard's Rohan Ramnath heading into final round action on Sunday.
"I am so proud of Ryan and all that he has accomplished," said Upstate head coach Todd Lawton. "This round was special in so many ways and he is a proud Spartan through and through. I love his passion and energy, and today was truly a great team round as well."
Cornfield began his day on fire shooting 4-under through the first three holes highlighted by an eagle on the par-4 12th hole. He added another birdie on the 15th hole and made the turn at 5-under 31 for the day. Cornfield carded two more birdies to begin the back-nine, and concluded his round with a birdie putt on the 9th hole. He currently leads the tournament in par-4 scoring a 6-under with a stroke average of 3.70, and is third with 11 birdies.
Trey Taylor compiled a career-low round during the second day after turning in a 1-under 71 and is the second-highest Spartan in the individual standings as he is tied for 35th place. Taylor cut three strokes off his round from Friday and is one of nine players sitting at 1-over 145 for the tournament.
"Trey broke his personal record and has played a great tournament so far," added Lawton. "Tomorrow will be fun and presents a great opportunity for us."
Taylor White and Sebastian Lopez Bulla are within one stroke of each other as White is tied for 44th position and Lopez Bulla tied for 52nd. White had a round of 76 and is at 2-over 146 after the first two rounds, while Lopez Bulla had his best round of the tournament at 72 for a 3-over 147. Tom Schofield rounds out the scoring for Upstate as he is tied for 64th with a 5-over 149 following a 74.
Playing as an individual, Alejandro Lopez improved his score by six strokes after recording a second round 78. Lopez has a two-day score of 162.
The Spartans achieved a season-low round for the second straight day after carding a 281 on Saturday and are in fifth place overall with a 6-under score of 570. Georgia State leads the Furman Intercollegiate after day two with a 16-under 560.
The final round of the Furman Intercollegiate will tee off at 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
