Reunion, Fla. – The USC Upstate women's golf team wrapped up the second round of the A-Sun Championships on Monday as Payton Culler and Sidney Dermody continue to lead the way for the Spartans individually at the par-72, 6,100-yard Reunion Resort Tom Watson Course.
Culler and Dermody enter the final round tied for 21st place after rounds of 82 and 80 on Monday. The duo will enter their final rounds aiming to make history with Upstate's best-ever individual finish. Taylor Barnes owns the school's top finish when she placed in a tie for 16th at the 2013 A-Sun Championships.
"Today was a mix of improvement from some and a struggle for others," said head coach Todd Lawton. "Malika made a nice comeback today and it would have been great to have another low score or two like yesterday. Payton and Sidney can still have a good finish if they both keep focused on good individual shots."
Culler is currently tied for fourth with five birdies in the tournament and tied for sixth in par-5 scoring at even-par. Dermody ranks tied for fifth in par-3 scoring with a 1-over score and a 3.13 stroke average.
Malika Allie turned in the top individual score for the Spartans on Monday after her second round 79, cutting 11 strokes off her mark from day one. Allie enters the final day of competition in 33rd place.
Allea Hawkins and Allie Gennaula are within two spots of each other in the individual standings as Hawkins sits in 30th place and Gennaula 32nd. Hawkins and Gennaula posted rounds of 81 and 82, respectively.
North Florida now leads the A-Sun Women's Golf Championships by one stroke over Florida Gulf Coast after shooting a second round 294 on Monday. Kennesaw State's Clara Aveling continues to sit atop the individual standings following her round of 71, leading by four strokes over Mary Dawson of North Florida at 3-under 141.
The final round of the A-Sun Women's Golf Championships will tee off Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
