Dermody Finishes Tied for 11th at A-Sun Championships

Reunion, Fla. – Sidney Dermody recorded the USC Upstate women's golf team's best individual finish in program history at the A-Sun Championships on Tuesday as the sophomore placed in a tie for 11th to conclude tournament play at the par-72, 6,100-yard Reunion Resort Tom Watson Course.
Dermody bested the finish turned in by Taylor Barnes of tied for 16th at the 2013 A-Sun Championships after shooting a career-low round of 73 on Tuesday. She tied for the lowest round of the season with teammate Payton Culler who also carded a 73 during round one of the A-Sun Championships on Sunday. The tied for 11th showing by Dermody is her best finish of the season as she had a combined score of 228 (75-80-73).
"Sidney was consistent throughout her round today," said head coach Todd Lawton. "She putted well early and continued that throughout her round, finishing with a total 26 putts. I was impressed even when she missed a shot, she recovered and stayed focused. I am really proud of her individual finish in the championship."
The 73 posted by Dermody highlighted final day action for Upstate as it compiled a tournament-low round of 317 to finish in seventh place with a team score of 958 (319-322-317). Dermody also equals the lowest round in tournament history by a Spartan golfer with Culler and Amanda Hall in 2011.
Culler wrapped up her play at the three-day tournament with an 86 in the third round and was the second-highest Spartan in the individual standings, tying for 28th position at 241 (73-82-86). Allea Hawkins and Allie Gennaula both had third round 80's, and placed back-to-back in 30th and 31st place. Hawkins contributed a total score of 246 (85-81-80) and Gennaula a 248 (86-82-80). Malika Allie rounded out the tournament for Upstate carding a third round 84 to finish 33rd at 253 (90-79-84).
North Florida captured the A-Sun Women's Golf Championship by shooting a final round 298 to win by 11 strokes over second-place Florida Gulf Coast. Kennesaw State's Clara Aveling fired a third round 77 to finish at 218 for the tournament and win individual medalist honors.
