Jones Sets New School Record on Opening Day of Charlotte Invitational

Charlotte, N.C. – Freshman Dorian Jones set a new school record in the 1,500-meter run during the opening day of the Charlotte Invitational on Friday at Irwin Belk Track.
Jones crossed the finish line with a new record time of 3:52.30, shattering the previous school record of 3:55.02. Jones' time is the third-fastest in the Atlantic Sun this season based on times prior to this weekend.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Logan Ray finished in fourth place (10:29.81) followed by Abraham Hernandez in fifth place (10:31.12). Upstate had four of the top 10 finishers in the men's 5,000-meter run, led by Martin Morrow in sixth place (15:04.33). Alex Love finished in seventh place (15:33.07), followed by Ereck Lewis in ninth (15:37.70) and Griffin Eubanks in 10th (15:37.81).
Jazmine Burse finished in fourth place in the heptathlon with 2,753 points. Burse finished in second place in the shot put portion of the event with a throw of 10.71 meters and third place in the 100-meter hurdle heptathlon with a time of 14.68. Essence Jackson finished in sixth place in the 800-meter run.
The meet continues tomorrow beginning with the decathlon at 9 a.m.
