Spartans Close out Charlotte Invitational with Multiple Top-10 Finishes

Charlotte, N.C. – The USC Upstate track and field team finished the second day of the Charlotte Invitational with a new school record in the men's 4x100-meter relay and 18 top-10 finishes.
Ashleigh Torres finished in fifth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.70 with Rebecca Elliott finishing in 10th place (2:26.06). The Spartans had three runners score top-10 finishes in the 100-meter dash, led by Semaj Tolliver in sixth (12.34). Courtney Bradley finished in eighth place (12.36) followed by Brenicke Johnson (12.37). Bradley finished ninth in the 200-meter dash (25.83).
In the 100-meter hurdles, Kennedy Holton finished in ninth place (14.60), just ahead of Jazmine Burse in 10th (14.87). Destinie Sykes finished in fourth place in the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.80) while Holton finished in sixth place (1:08.91). Sykes also scored a sixth place finish in the triple jump (11.34 meters).
On the men's side, the 4X100-meter relay team of Tyriek Sampson, Patrick Jamison, James Jones and Ezequiel Sepulveda set a new school record with a time of 41.82 while finishing in fourth place. Dorian Jones picked up the win in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.02. Jones set a new school record in the 1,500-meter run on Friday night. Tanner Saunders finished in third place in the 400-meter hurdles (53.31). James Jones finished in fifth place in the 110-meter hurdles (14.58). Desman Martin finished in eighth place in the triple jump (13.65 meters) and 10th place in the long jump (6.44 meters). Donnie Hutchinson finished in 10th place in the triple jump with a mark of 13.54 meters.
Upstate will compete in the Elon Invitational next Saturday in their final meet before the Atlantic Sun Championships.
