
Track Travels to Elon for Final Pre-Conference Meet

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate outdoor track and field team will compete in its final meet before the Atlantic Sun Championships as the Spartans travel to Elon, N.C. for their first appearance at the Phoenix Invitational on Saturday.
Upstate set two school records last weekend at the Charlotte Invitational. Dorian Jones finished the 1,500-meter run in 3:52.30, besting the previous record time of 3:55.02. Jones also won the Saturday portion of the 800-meter run. The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Tyriek Sampson, Patrick Jamison, James Jones and Ezequiel Sepulveda set a new school record with a time of 41.82 while finishing in fourth place. As a team, Upstate had over 25 top-10 finishes during the weekend, including 18 on Saturday.
The men's 4x100-meter relay team holds the fastest time in the A-Sun this season. Tanner Saunders has the top 400-meter hurdle time in the league at 53.00.
The meet begins at 10 a.m. with the women's hammer throw. Track events begin at Noon with the women's 4x100-meter relay.
Following the Phoenix Invitational, Upstate will compete at the Atlantic Sun Championships in Jacksonville, Fla. on May 13-14.
