New Orleans, La. – The USC Upstate women's track and field team was honored by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) as the organization announced its 2015-16 All-Academic Teams recently.
Upstate was recognized for the second time in school history after posting a team GPA of 3.13. The Spartan women's program was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team following the 2012-13 season.
"I am extremely proud of each of these young ladies," said head coach Natalie Smith. "They are not only great students, they are exceptional young ladies. Our goal is to stay on this path and to make this an award that we start to get on a more consistent basis. This award is also a great testament to our outgoing seniors as they were the first to receive this award in school history after their freshman year in 2012-13 and now closing out as seniors our team has made the list again. I congratulate the entire women's team and I am proud that the seniors are a part of this award as they close out their career."
Teams must have a 3.0 GPA or better in order to be considered. In total, there were 122 men's teams and 220 women's teams who received recognition.
