Big South Men's Track & Field Full Release
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference released their first track and field athlete of the week award winners on Wednesday afternoon and USC Upstate took home three of the four possible winners, Angelnique Bryant (Fort Mill, S.C.) – Women's Track, Tony Auguste (Arlington, Va.) – Men's Field and Jared Henderson (Seneca, S.C.) – Men's Track.
Â
Bryant the reigning Big South 60 meter dash champion picked-up where she left off last indoor season. The sophomore out of Fort Mill, S.C. flew past the competition and into the school record books with a sprint of 7.42 seconds in the 60 meter dash. Bryant's time gave her the victory and it shattered a four-year old school record set by Brenicke Johnson in 2015. This is the third overall and the second indoor track athlete of the week honor for Bryant in her career.
Â
Auguste set the tone for the Spartans track and field team on Saturday with a win in the weight throw competition. Auguste's throw of 17.67 meters was two meters longer than anyone else in the competition, it also bested Kenny Sugishita's 2012 throw of 17.12 meters in the ASUN Championships to set a new school record. This is the first athlete of the week honor for Auguste.
Â
Henderson had arguably the best day out of anyone at the Clemson Opener, he reset the school record in both the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. Henderson's time of 6.80 seconds in the 60 meter dash was good for a runner-up finish in the event and it marks the third consecutive season in which the school record has either been matched or broken. In the 200 meter dash Henderson finished third overall with a time of 21.69 seconds. This is the first athlete of the week honor for Henderson in his career.
Â
The Spartans Track and Field team will have over a month to prepare for the Gamecock Opener on January 17-18.
