12/6/2019 4:04:00 PM | Track and Field, Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate track and field programs will kick-off the 2019-2020 indoor track season with a short jaunt over to Clemson, S.C. for the Clemson Opener on Saturday.
Â
"We are excited to see how far everyone's training has come this fall," USC Upstate head track and field coach Carson Blackwelder said.
Â
On the men's side Tony Auguste (Arlington, Va.) looks to build on his success from the Big South Indoor Championships last season. Auguste finished eighth overall in the men's shot put event and fifth overall in the men's weight throw event. Joining Auguste in the throwing events tomorrow will be fellow junior Tashaun Wallace (Inman, S.C.) and freshman Anthony Carswell.
Â
A seasoned group of jumpers returns Ari Jahanfar (Alpharetta, Ga.), Elam Pearson (Goose Creek, S.C.) and Keon Middleton-Weaver (St. Stephens, S.C.). Jahanfar and Middleton-Weaver both finished inside the top-10 of the triple jump competition and Pearson record a top-15 finish in the Long Jump event in the Big South Championships.
Â
USC Upstate will look to fill the void of two-time NCAA East Regional qualifier Tanner Saunders who graduated last May. This year's sprinters group seems up to the challenge as they return three athletes that finished inside the top-10 at the Big South Indoor Championships, Javin Holston, Lonnie Morton and Cameron Smith. Other key returners include Jared Henderson, Michael Jamison, Richard Sowell and Antoine Nance.
Â
On the women's side Adanman Uzor (Mauldin, S.C.) and Angelnique Bryant (Fort Mill, S.C.) anchor a women's team that has a solid mix of both seasoned and youthful athletes. Newcomers include throwers Hayley Moore, Megan Deimeke, Taylor Thorton and pole vaulter Samiriah Stokes. Other newcomers include mid-distance runners Tiana Gray, Kaylyn Mills, Saleia Porter, Alanie Foster, Arianna Krcik and sprinters Sharetha Odom and Anastasia Kinlaw.
Â
Joining Uzor in the jumping events this season are veteran jumpers Keayra Jackson and Dejaionne Kinard. On the sprinters team Bryant will be joined by sophomores Jasmine Brown, De'Avion Nesbitt and junior Jer'Nasia Coleman. Krysta Pierstorff will be the lone upperclassmen runner in the mid-distance events this weekend.
Â
USC Upstate will be competing against Clemson, Florida A&M, Converse College, Kennesaw State, Fayetteville State, Furman, South Carolina, South Carolina State, Anderson, North Greenville, Western Carolina, Limestone, Winston Salem St, Georgia Southern, Emmanuel, Georgia Tech and Union. Â
