USC Upstate Cross Country Teams Picked to finish Fifth and Sixth in Big South Preseason Poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced both the preseason men's and women's cross country poll's on Thursday afternoon, USC Upstate has been picked to finish fifth in the men's poll and sixth in the women's poll.

The men's cross country team received a total of 67 points in the poll. The Spartans picked up a single fourth-place vote, six fifth-place votes and a single vote in the sixth, seventh, eighth and tenth positions. On the women's side, the Spartans received a total of 55 points in the preseason poll. The women's cross country team received a pair of fifth place votes, three sixth place votes, four seventh place votes and a single point for tenth and 11^th place.

The USC Upstate men's cross country team returns a seasoned group of runners with only four freshman on this year's squad. Lucas Campbell (Peoria, Ill.), Jacob Coccia (Rock Hill, S.C.), Jared Coccia (Rock Hill, S.C.), Dorian Jones (West Columbia, S.C.) and Logan Miller (Boiling Springs, S.C.) all return for their senior season.

On the women's side the Spartans are boasting a youthful team with nine underclassmen this season. Alicia Chavez (Stuart, Fla.) and Krysta Pierstorff (Waukesha, Wisc.) return for their senior season with the green and black.

High Point took home first place honors for the women's cross country poll, while Campbell claimed the top spot in the men's poll.

The Big South Cross Country Championships will be held in Buies Creek, N.C. on November 2^nd this season.

The USC Upstate cross country teams will compete in their first meet of the season on August 30 in Boone, N.C. The start time for the competition is listed as 6:30 p.m.
