Against a Stacked Tournament Field, Men's Golf Opens Spring Season at the Sea Best Invitational

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Competing against a stacked tournament field at one of the most famed golf courses in the world, USC Upstate men's golf wrapped its spring season opener Tuesday afternoon at TPC Sawgrass and the Sea Best Invitational.

Against an event field that featured six teams ranked in the top-50 of the GolfStat rankings and a course that posted an average score of three-over-par (73.24), the Spartans posted two sub-300 rounds with both rounds (297) sitting at the team's average round for the season.

Sophomore Max Dupree led Upstate for the fourth time in five events to open the 2021-22 season, tying for 32nd at the Sea Best Invitational. He fashioned scores of 73-74-70-217, finishing seven strokes over par while posting his third-lowest 54-hole total of the season.

Posting scores of 79-73-71-223, junior Brady Hinkle wrapped the event at 13-over-par, tying for 57th on the final leaderboard. Carding final round totals of 71 and 70, respectively, Hinkle and Dupree stood as Upstate's biggest movers of the event, jumping 14 and nine spots on the leaderboard following Tuesday's third round.

Notable
- Carding the Spartans' lone Eagle at the event, Brady Hinkle carded one of nine total Eagles at the Sea Best Invitational. He notched his Eagle on the Par-5, 558-yard first hole at TPC Sawgrass – Dye's Valley, marking his second Eagle of the season and tying Nick Willis for the team lead in Eagles this season.
- Finishing three-over-par and carding an Eagle on a Par-5, Hinkle finished tied for fifth in the Sea Best Invitational field in Par-5 scoring.
- Of the 13 teams in the Sea Best Invitational field, six teams were ranked in the top-50 in the GolfStat rankings.
