SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Entering the final game of the weekend with a series victory in its pocket, USC Upstate baseball sought its third Big South Conference sweep as the Spartans' bats produced 16 runs and 17 hits to complete the sweep of Radford with a 16-10 win Sunday at Cleveland S. Harley Park.
The Spartans struck first for the third time in the series and in the first inning for the second straight day with a four-spot in their first at-bat, the first of five multi-run innings on the day. Adding to its first-inning runs, Upstate tacked on three in the second, three in the fifth, four in the sixth, and two in the seventh for its fifth double-digit run game during conference play.
Continuing his strong weekend at the plate and following up on his then career-high three hits in his Saturday's game, redshirt junior catcher
David Pereira did himself one better Sunday, picking up a career-best four hits while tying a career-high with three RBI. He ended his day a home run short of a natural cycle as he singled in his first and fifth at-bats, doubled in his third, and tripled in his fourth.
Pereira's four-hit day led a sextet of multi-hit efforts as sophomore third baseman
Cole Caruso, redshirt junior shortstop
Troy Hamilton, redshirt junior first baseman
Grant Sherrod, redshirt sophomore leftfielder
Ty Tilson, and junior second baseman
Easton Cullison each picked up two hits apiece. Four Spartans, including Pereira, recorded multi-RBI games with Sherrod driving home three and Caruso and sophomore centerfielder
Kyle Henington driving in two apiece.
