Upstate Softball opens new week with their second matchup against Furman before Big South Play

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Returning to the area after a seven-day swing that featured four games in Maderia Beach, Florida and rounding out the trip with a doubleheader at the College of Charleston, Upstate Softball battles Furman for their second twin-bill of the season with the last being a Spartans sweep on Wednesday, February 25th.

Players to Watch

USC Upstate: Senior Infielder, Carson Shaw continues to display her leadership batting .341 while adding 24 hits, 14 RBI, five runs scored, four doubles, .443 slugging percentage, and one home run. Shaw recently added her fifth multi-hit game of the season going 2-for-4 on game one against the College of Charleston. Carson Shaw is ranked #4 in the Big South with 159 putouts while adding four double plays with a .982 fielding percentage. Shaw is the ultimate team player with four sacrifice bunts and is a vocal leader who motivates her peers each day. Shaw will be a a player to keep an eye on as the Spartans travel to Pepsi Field on Tuesday.

Furman: Senior Catcher, Sylvia Burroughs has led the Paladins batting .359 in the season while adding 23 hits, eight runs scored, six doubles, and three home runs. Burroughs opened the month of March on a tear at the plate with three consecutive multi-hit games and one home run and a three-RBI game against Bucknell on Wednesday, March 11th. Burroughs adds 127 putouts with six double plays and a .992 fielding percentage. Burroughs will look to continue her streak at Pepsi Field against the Spartans on Tuesday.

Up next for the Spartans

Following the Tuesday doubleheader, Upstate Softball will open Big South Conference play hosting the 2025 Regular Season Champions, Radford on Friday, March 20th at 4:00 P.M. Eastern time live on ESPN+. The weekend series will continue with a Saturday doubleheader against the Highlanders at 1:00 & 3:00 P.M. Eastern live on ESPN+, marking Upstate's first home game since February 25th.
