The highest-scoring game of the weekend saw the sides trade jabs throughout the afternoon with Upstate pouncing for four runs in the first inning before adding two more in the third to build a 6-1 advantage. The Lancers, however, methodically chipped away at the lead before wrestling it away in the fifth before extending it to five runs in the sixth. From there, the Spartans began their rally with a run in the seventh, two in the eighth, and one in the ninth, falling just short in the final frame.
Â
Redshirt freshman leftfielder Trey Bentley the second multi-RBI game of his career, driving home a career-best three runs behind a career-high-tying two hits, both extra-base hits, including his first collegiate home run. Joining him with a multi-hit and multi-RBI effort, redshirt sophomore centerfielder Henry Zenor collected two hits and two RBI while senior first baseman Preston Lucas tallied three hits.

How It Happened
- T1: Striking in the opening frame for the first time this weekend, Upstate used three doubles to score four runs in the stanza. Tyler Lang followed a Henry Zenor double to plate the first tally before later scoring on a Maloy Heaghney single to right-center. An RBI groundout from Jake Armsey pushed across run three before Preston Lucas doubled home the final run.
- B2: Getting a run back, Longwood's Tre Keels hit a solo shot to left.
- T3: Answering the Lancers' run and then some, Trey Bentley launched his first career homer into the trees in right-center, plating two more runs for the Spartans.
- B3: Pulling themselves closer, the Lancers scratched three runs in the frame, the biggest hit a two-run homer from Brogan Jones.
- B4: Drawing closer, Longwood added another tally on a fielder's choice with Upstate attempting to turn two with runners on the corner.
- B5: Taking the lead, the Lancers scored twice on a two-run home run to center from Lucas Johnson.
- T6: Battling back to knot the game, Zenor followed a Gage Griggs double with a single ripped through the right side, allowing Griggs to race home and score.
- B6: Putting forth its highest-scoring frame of the day, Longwood scored five to break the deadlock. A pair of Lancers homers, a Jack McMullan solo shot and a Jae'den Carter three-run blast provided four of the five tallies.
- T7: Cutting into the Lancer lead, the Spartans pushed across a run as Johnny Sweeney crossed as Longwood turned a double play.
- T8: Further trimming the Longwood advantage, Upstate scored twice in the seventh, getting an RBI single from Zenor and an RBI double from Sweeney.
- T9: Lifting a ball into center, Bentley picked up his third and final RBI of the day, scoring Kenan Bowman with a sac fly.
