Returning to Hub City, Baseball Readies for Crosstown Rivalry Game, Hosting Wofford at Fifth Third Park

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Returning to the Hub City and to the ballpark it helped christen against its crosstown rival, USC Upstate baseball closes its 10-game stretch of games away from campus, facing Wofford at Fifth Third Park in downtown Spartanburg Tuesday. The Spartans and Terriers invade the home of the Hub City Spartanburgers for a 6 p.m. ET first pitch, meeting at Fifth Third Park for the second straight season as the two clubs played the first-ever game at the stadium last April, one of three meetings between the clubs last year.

Pitcher: Making his fourth straight midweek start for the Spartans, sophomore left-handed pitcher Max Kaplan enters Tuesday's game seeking a fourth straight start with six or more strikeouts. In eight career starts, he's struck out five or more batters in five of his eight starts, entering the midweek ranked sixth in the Big South in strikeouts with 22. Kaplan boasts a 3.26 ERA and .260 opponent's batting average over 19.1 innings this season.

Position Player: Collecting a pair of hits Sunday and two multi-hit efforts in the Spartans' weekend series at Texas, redshirt sophomore catcher Tyler Lang enters the Wofford game with a team-best eight multi-hit games this season. He's recorded multiple hits in eight of his nine games with at least one hit this season, posting his multi-hit game mark in 13 games played this season. Lang heads the Upstate batting order with a .432 average while leading the league with seven doubles.

Wofford
Pitcher: Making his first career start, senior right-handed pitcher John Gray gets the ball for the Terriers Tuesday evening for his third pitching appearance of the season. In 2026, he's tossed 4.0 innings, going 2.0 innings in each of his appearances, striking out six batters against one walk. Gray sports a 6.75 ERA and a .250 opponent's batting average this season.

Position Player: Entering Tuesday's midweek contest, senior outfielder Logan Tribble leads the Terriers and ranks second in the SoCon in both batting average and on-base percentage, posting marks of .435 and .574 this season, respectively.
