Three Spartan Volleyball Players Earn Preseason Honors along with Third Place Preseason Finish

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – USC Upstate volleyball will enter the 2026 season among the top contenders in the Big South Conference as the Spartans were picked to finish third in the league's Preseason Coaches Poll, the conference announced Wednesday.
Along with the team's third-place selection, Upstate placed three Spartans on the Big South Preseason All-Conference Team, highlighted by a pair of historic individual honors for Sophia Overholt and Kamyla Vega David.
Overholt was selected as the Big South Preseason Libero of the Year, while Vega David earned recognition as the conference's Preseason Co-Setter of the Year. The awards mark the first time in USC Upstate volleyball history that a Spartan has been selected as the Big South's Preseason Libero of the Year or Preseason Setter of the Year.
The pair also earned spots on the Big South Preseason All-Conference Team alongside Summer Kohler, giving Upstate three preseason all-conference selections heading into the 2026 campaign.
Overholt's recognition comes after establishing herself as one of the Big South's premier defensive players. Her presence in the back row has been a key component of the Spartans' success, and she enters the new season carrying the conference's top preseason honor at the libero position.
Vega David also enters 2026 with high expectations after serving as a catalyst for the Upstate offense from the setter position. Her selection as Preseason Co-Setter of the Year adds another milestone to her Spartan career and gives Upstate preseason honorees at two of the sport's most important positions.
Kohler rounds out the Spartans' trio of preseason all-conference selections after establishing herself as an impact player for Upstate. Her inclusion on the preseason team gives the Spartans representation across multiple areas of the floor and adds to the individual recognition surrounding the program entering the new season.
