Men's Soccer Gets Shutout Win over West Florida

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate men's soccer used a pair of goals just 76 seconds apart in the second half to pull away from West Florida, earning a 3-0 victory Thursday evening at County University Soccer Stadium.
The Spartans opened the scoring in dramatic fashion, finding the back of the net with just two seconds remaining in the opening half. Christian Cook put Upstate in front at the 44:58 mark, finishing high and through the center of goal off assists from Jacob Cromedy and Johannes Lund. The goal sent the Spartans into halftime holding a 1-0 advantage.

Upstate's attack came alive early in the second half as the Spartans consistently applied pressure in the attacking third. After several opportunities, including attempts from Tolu Fabamifobee, Jayden Montgomery and Josh Zawlocki, Upstate doubled its advantage in the 59th minute.
Bennett Leitner delivered the Spartans' second goal at 58:46. Oscar Kelly struck the left post just seconds earlier before helping create another opportunity, with Leitner finishing low to the right side of the net to make it 2-0.

Just 1:16 later, Upstate struck again. Josh Zawlocki collected a pass from Jalen Moore and fired his attempt high into the left side of the goal at 60:02, extending the Spartan advantage to 3-0.

From there, the Spartan defense protected the clean sheet. Jarrett Wuerslin turned away West Florida's chances in goal, including a second-half save against Ismael Castillo in the 76th minute.
Upstate's defense held the Argonauts scoreless through the full 90 minutes as the Spartans secured the 3-0 victory. Upstate scored once in the opening half and twice after halftime, while West Florida was held off the scoreboard in both periods.
