Goodman, Nock Lead Upstate on Final Day of Niswonger Invitational

Johnson City, Tenn. – Brandon Goodman and Dominique Nock led the USC Upstate track and field team during the final day of competition at the 36th annual Niswonger Invitational at the David E. Walker Track at Gentry Field.
Goodman and Nock posted the top individual finishes for the men and women on Saturday as one school record was broken and one tied. A total of six personal-bests were either broken or tied for the Spartans.
Goodman broke the school's indoor school record, while setting a personal-best, in the high jump following a leap of 2.08-meters (6-09.75) to earned second-place recognition. He eclipsed the previous school record set by Perrish Goggins at the 2009 Appalachian Limited.
Nock recorded two top-five finishes on the day in the 60-meter dash finals and long jump. She tied her own school indoor record, and personal-best, in the 60-meter dash finals as she took second place with a time of 7.54, and followed with a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 5.58-meters (18-03.75).
Hannah Chaney added a 10th-place finish in the 5000-meter run after posting a time of 20:10.00.
On the men's side, Ethan Dopp, Michael Smith and Mark Rennix each set new personal-bests in their respective events. Dopp recorded a time of 2:05.98 in the 800-meter run, Smith placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 5.92-meters (19-05.25) and Rennix a time of 4:35.33 in the mile run.
The Upstate men also had three of the top 15 finishers in the long jump and 5000-meter run. Smith, along with Jake McKown and Thomas Perkins, were positioned inside the top 12 of the long jump event, and Alex Love, Andrew Kipchumba and Riley Doherty finished in the top 14 of the 5000-meter run. Love compiled a third-place finish in the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:11.65.
The quartet of Goodman, Johnson, Cameron Pratt and Kyle Jones picked up a ninth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:25.25.
The Spartans return to the track on Sunday, Jan. 26 when they take part in the UNCG Spartans Team Challenge in Winston-Salem, N.C.
