Chanthaphaeng Tied for Sixth to Open Lady EagleCat Invitational

Daytona Beach, Fla. – Anna Chanthaphaeng carded an opening round 74 to lead the USC Upstate women's golf team during the first round of the Lady EagleCat Invitational on Thursday at the LPGA International Golf Club – Jones Course.
Upstate opened tournament play with a first round 310 and sits in seventh place heading into the final day on Friday. A total of seven strokes separate the Spartans from Sacred Heart and Long Island-Brooklyn who are tied for third place. Upstate also sits one stroke back of Winthrop and five of Florida Atlantic.
Chanthaphaeng recorded a team-high two birdies on Thursday and is tied for sixth in the individual standings at 2-over par. Sidney Dermody and Pan Paksanont both had rounds of 4-over 76 and are tied for 15th place. Payton Culler and Caroline Heustess rounded out the day for the Spartans tied for 49th and 59th place, respectively. Culler posted an opening round 84 and Heustess followed with an 89.
Boston College sits atop the team leaderboard by four strokes over co-host Bethune-Cookman at 4-over 292. Individually, there is a three-way tie for first place at even-par 72 between Bethune-Cookman's Shamiso Hatchard, and Ailin Li and Lois Kaye Go of Boston College.
The final round of the Lady EagleCat Invitational will tee off Friday morning at 8:30 a.m.
NOTABLES
- Upstate turned in its second round this season of 310 after finishing play at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic with the same score.
- Dermody had the lowest score in her last 12 rounds with the 76 that included one birdie on the 18th hole.
- The Spartans totaled four birdies during their first round led by two from Chanthaphaeng while Paksanont added one.
- As a team, Upstate is tied for third in par 3 scoring with a 3.50 stroke average, and tied for sixth in par 4 (4.48 stroke average) and par 5 (5.25 stroke average) scoring. The Spartans are also third in the tournament field with 53 pars.
- Paksanont currently ranks tied for second in par 5 scoring with a 1-under score and 4.75 stroke average, and tied for eighth with 12 pars.
- Dermody sits tied for third in par 3 (E, 3.00 stroke average) and tied for eighth in par 5 (E, 5.00 stroke average) scoring.
- Chanthaphaeng ranks tied for third in par 4 scoring at even-par and a 4.00 stroke average, and tied for ninth in birdies.
- Chanthaphaeng and Dermody are both tied for fifth after compiling 13 pars.
