
Spartans Have Standout Performances at Charlotte Invitational

Charlotte, N.C. – The USC Upstate track & field teams had their best weekend of the 2017 outdoor season at the Charlotte Invitational last weekend. The Spartans had eight personal bests and a multitude of top-10 finishes.
"This was a great meet overall for the team," head coach Carson Blackwelder said. "We had lots of personal records and season bests. I'm excited to see what we can accomplish over the next month."
Noteworthy
- Jaida Cole finished ninth in the 100-meter dash.
- Kennedy Holton finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles.
- Destinie Sykes posted three top-10s as she finished in third place in the triple jump, 10th place in the 100-meter hurdles and sixth place in the 400-meter hurdles.
- Courtney Bradley finished eighth in the 400-meter dash.
- In the fast section of the 800-meter run, Essence Jackson finished in fifth place.
- Anastasia Kolesnitchenko finished eighth in the 800-meter run.
- Ruby Lewis finished eighth in the 3,000-meter run.
- Kalyn Brown continued her strong season in the field with a fifth place finish in the shot put and a ninth place finish in the discus.
- The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Jazmine Burse, Cole, Bradley and Holton finished in fourth place.
- The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Amun Jackson, Desman Martin, Darius Marshall and Patrick Jamison finished in sixth place. Their time of 42.38 is the third-fastest in school history.
- Marshall finished ninth in the long jump.
- Benjamin Bapuopeleh placed ninth in the triple jump and 10th in the long jump.
- Jamison finished third in the 200-meter dash.
- Collins Livinus finished eighth in the 400-meter dash.
- Tanner Saunders scored another top-five finish during the outdoor season with a fifth place run in the 400-meter hurdles.
- Roman Mealing posted a sixth place result in the 800-meter run.
- Dorian Jones finished 10th in the 1,500-meter run.
- Griffin Eubanks crossed the finish line in third place in the 3,000-meter run.
- Alex Love and Ereck Lewis finished in eighth and ninth place in the 5,000-meter run.
- Bryson Hatten finished 10th in the javelin.
- Cole (100-meter dash, 200-meter dash), Mealing (800-meter run, 1,500-meter run), Hatten (javelin), Livinus (400-meter dash), Kelsey Warren (1,500-meter run) and Noah Walker (400-meter hurdles) each recorded a personal best.
