
Craig and Greene Named to ASUN Men’s Basketball All-Decade Team

ATLANTA, Ga. – The ASUN Conference announced the Men's Basketball 2010-2019 All-Decade Team, with USC Upstate landing both Torrey Craig (Great Falls, S.C.) and Ty Greene (Knoxville, Tenn.) on the list.
Craig is just the second player in USC Upstate program history to play in the NBA, achieving the feat during the 2017-18 season with the Denver Nuggets. While at USC Upstate from 2010-2014, Craig completed one of the greatest careers in school history. The Palmetto State native finished his career as a Spartan ranked second all-time in points scored (2,128), first in rebounds (944), fifth in blocked shots (101), 11th in steals (138), fourth in field goals made (747), first in three-point field goals (297) and third in free throws (338).
"One of the best teammates we had here at Upstate," USC Upstate former head men's basketball coach Eddie Payne said. "That, combined with his obvious talent, made him a dominant influencer on the culture of our team. What he has accomplished, post graduation, further illustrates his powerful influence on a team. Wonderful person, GREAT player!"
In the ASUN record book, Craig is second all-time in 3pt-field goals attempted (899), fifth all-time in field goals attempted (1808), sixth in points (2,128), sixth in total rebounds (944), seventh in 3-pt field goals made (297), and ninth in made field goals (747) and double-doubles (25).
He also played an instrumental role in helping USC Upstate earn victories over Virginia Tech and South Carolina, allowing it to post the school's first-ever wins over an opponent from the ACC and SEC. In addition, Craig was a catalyst in helping the Spartans reach the postseason in two of his four seasons, as the 2012 team earned a bid to the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament to become the first team in school history to reach the postseason during the Division I era.
Craig, a three-time ASUN First Team All-Conference selection, was named the ASUN Player of the Year in 2011-12 after leading the league in points scored (559). Craig also led the league in scoring average (11-12 & 13-14), field goals made (11-12 & 13-14), and also earned Freshman of the Year honors in 2010-11.
Greene capped off a stellar career in the Green and Black by winning the Lou Henson National Mid-Major Player of the Year Award following his senior season in 2015. The 2015 ASUN Player of the Year finished the season first in the A-Sun and 11th in the NCAA in scoring with 20.3 points per game, leading the conference with 21 games of at least 20 points. The Knoxville, Tenn., native delivered seven straight 20-point games towards the end of the season to become the first A-Sun player to accomplish that feat since the 2009-10 season.
Greene ended the season with 709 points to become only the third player in school history and fifth in league history with 700 points in a season. In addition, his 709 points were the seventh-most in the NCAA during the 2015 campaign. The Volunteer State native, was tabbed a CollegeInsider.com All-American, an Associated Press All-America honorable mention, and a National Association of Basketball Coaches Division I All-District 3 first team selection in 2015.
"I have never seen a greater and stronger personality play and influencer on a team like Ty Greene," Payne remarked. "He never took a play off, in practice or in a game! It is rare to coach a player like that."
Greene was the A-Sun Freshman of the Year in 2011-12 and currently ranks fourth all-time in Spartan history in scoring with 1,884 points. He also ranks second in three-point field goals made, three-point field goals attempted, free throws made, free throws attempted and games started; fourth in field goals made, field goals attempted and games played; and fifth in field goals made and steals.
He finished his career averaging 14.7 points per game to tie him for 11th at Upstate with former Spartan Charleston Long (2003-05). Greene played in 128 games during his four-year career and logged 119 starts. He holds the Upstate Division I era record for most points in a game with 39 which came on Jan. 31, 2015 at North Florida.
To be named to the All-Decade Team an individual must have competed for at least two years in the decade as an ASUN student-athlete. Individuals that obtained one of the following criteria were named to the team; three First Team All-Conference selections, four All-Conference selections, multiple Scholar-Athlete/Player of the Year, 1,500 career points or 1,000 career rebounds. Individuals that obtained at least two of the following criteria were named to the team; Player/Tourney MVP/Freshman/Defensive Player/Newcomer/Scholar-Athlete of the Year, three All-Conference selections, two First Team All-Conference selections, two All-Tournament team selections.
USC Upstate was a member of the ASUN Conference from 2007-18. The Spartans joined the Big South Conference on July 1, 2018.
