Spartans Return to Columbia for USC Open

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate track and field is headed to Columbia for the second weekend in a row, this time to compete in the University of South Carolina Open. The one-day meet takes place at the Gamecock's Cregger Track on Saturday, April 17.
The meet kicks off for the Spartans on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with the women's 3000-meter, women's hammer throw, and men's javelin. Field events conclude with the men's discus at 4 p.m. and track events conclude with the men's 4x400-meter at 6:26 p.m.
Thirty-five schools were invited to compete in the meet, including four other Big South Conference opponents. Upstate is joined by Campbell, Gardner-Webb, High Point, and Presbyterian College this weekend.
Last Time Out
USC Upstate track and field split time between the Hub City Invite hosted by Newberry and the Gamecock Invitational last weekend, and the Spartans saw two school records broken, four wins, 24 top-seven finishes, and 29 personal bests.
At the Hub City Invite, the quartet of Jasmine Brown, Angelnique Bryant, Sharetha Odom, and Anastasia Kinlaw once again took gold in the 4x100m relay with a 46.29 mark. For the men, Tony Auguste placed first in the hammer throw with a mark of 57.11. Bailey Hayes won the shot put with a program second-best mark of 16.31. Stephen Dauway, Jared Henderson, Antoine Nance, and Javin Holston took the win in the 4x100m relay with a time of 40.79.
Megan Deimeke set two school records on the weekend, first with a 48.14m mark in the hammer throw at the Hub City Invite. She went on to break that record the next day at the Gamecock Invite with a mark of 49.52m.
UP Next for the Spartans
The Spartans will get one final tune-up in before the Big South Championships as they head to Charlotte, N.C. next weekend to compete in the UNC Charlotte Invite on Friday, April 23, and Saturday, April 24.
