Returning to the course for the first time following a two-and-a-half week layoff from competition, USC Upstate men's golf heads to the Lowcountry for the first time this season, competing at the Daniel Island Intercollegiate at the Daniel Island Club in Daniel Island, S.C.
Â
This season's trip to the event marks the third straight season competing in the event, doing so in both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. Senior Zander Briggs has competed in the event in each of the past two seasons, leading Upstate at the event last season against a stout tournament field that featured seven teams ranked in the GolfStat Top-100.
Â
The Spartans return to the course after hosting The Carolina Cup at its home course at Carolina Country Club as the third iteration of the event was again successful, seeing the tournament's largest field for the third straight season. The event also allowed each member of the Spartans' roster to compete with four of the seven Spartans fashioning their lowest rounds of the season in the event's final round, helping Upstate to its lowest 18-hole team score of the season (295).
Â
Freshman Alec Prentice tied his career-low with a final-round 72 as he posted totals of 80-74-72-226 to pace the Spartans on the leaderboard. Carding Upstate's lowest 18-hole total of the event with a final-round 69—the lowest round of his career—was junior Jaskaran Sohal who carded scores of 76-82-69-227.
Â
Senior Zander Briggs finished behind the duo of Prentice and Sohal on the leaderboard as he fashioned totals of 81-75-77-233 while junior Barrett Josey and freshman Cameron Biddle rounded out the Upstate lineup marking down totals of 83-78-77-238 and 76-80-96-252, respectively.
