CHARLOTTE, N.C. – With the 2024 Hercules Tires Big South Men's Basketball Championship nearly upon us as the 2023-24 regular season has closed, USC Upstate men's basketball saw two Spartans recognized with All-Conference honors by the Big South Conference as the league announced its annual postseason honors and awards Tuesday.
Earning the distinction for the Spartans following the 2023-24 regular season were redshirt junior guard Trae Broadnax and sophomore guard Justin Bailey who earned Second Team All-Big South and Big South All-Academic Team nods. For Broadnax, he becomes the third Spartan since joining the league ahead of the 2018-19 season to double up on preseason and postseason league accolades while for Bailey, he becomes the fifth different Spartan to earn All-Academic Team honors.
Leading the Spartans offensively, Broadnax averaged 14.4 points per game as he ranked 11th in the league in scoring while upping his output to 15.5 points per game during league play, a figure that ranked ninth. He recorded 24 double-figure scoring games on the season, including five seeing him score 20 or more points—four of those coming against Big South competition.
He also paced the team's offense as one of the Spartans' primary ball handlers, recording 103 assists on the season, averaging 3.6 helpers per game, a figure that ranked fifth in the conference. With his 100-plus assists, he became the sixth Spartan in the program's Division I era (2007-pres.) to reach the milestone and the first since the 2021-22 season.
Adding another award to his career All-Conference ledger, Bailey earned a spot on the league's All-Academic Team as he maintains a 3.644 GPA in Information Management & Systems. He finished the season as the Spartans' second-leading scorer, averaging 12.0 points per game while leading Upstate on the defensive end with 41 total steals. He finished the regular season with 21 double-figure scoring games, eclipsing 20 points on two occasions.
