Prentice, Sanders Lead Spartans at Golfweek Fall Challenge

PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC – Sophomore Alec Prentice jumped 20 spots with a scorching third round and junior transfer Jackson Stone shoots a -1 (71) first round and an even par 72 in the third round, helping propel the Spartans men's golf team into 9th place in a highly talented and competitive field. The Spartans as a team were +8 (872) for the tournament, but steadily improved and trimmed 14 strokes from round one to round three score.
"This was a nice start. The guys adjusted well each round to improve," said Head Coach Todd Lawton. "Today was strong for Alec (Prentice). Glad to see him break out. There's lots of work to do, but there's a lot to be positive about."
Jackson Stone (tied for 31st), Ross Wright (41st), Alec Prentice (tied for 31st), and Caden Sanders (tied for 45th) all placed in the top 50. Prentice shot -5 on the day, the third-best score in the last round. Jaskaran Sohal, playing as an individual, had a strong front nine, birdying three of four holes, while Cameron Biddle posted a first-round score of 74 and a third-round score of 73, helping the Spartans improve each round (297-292-283,-872). The team also finished in the top half in scoring for par 3s and par 4s in the tournament.
Overall, Arkansas State won the men's tournament, finishing 35-under-par, while the individual title went to Patton Samuels, an Ole Miss transfer and now a junior at Austin Peay State.
NOTES:
Caden Sanders made history by scoring a hole in one on the 147-yard par 3 14th. The ace took place in Tuesday's final round.
USC Upstate posted 172 pars in the tournament, tied for 3rd in the field.
Jackson Stone finished in a 3-way tie for first with 40 pars.
Alec Prentice was -4 on Par 4s during the tournament, tied for the second lowest score in the field in this category
