SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On the back half of the team's longest road swing to this point in the season, USC Upstate baseball closes out its four-game road trip against NC State, seeing first pitch at 6 p.m. ET Tuesday evening from Doak Field at Dail Park. The meeting is the first between the Spartans and Wolfpack in Upstate's Division I era (2007-pres.), but the two programs met during the 1992 season when Upstate competed at the D2 level.

USC Upstate: Reaching in 13 of his 14 plate appearances and slashing .900/.929/2.000, senior designated hitter Johnny Sweeney turned a career-best weekend into Big South Player of the Week honors, the first of his career. He finished the weekend sweep of Charleston Southern with nine hits, two doubles, three home runs, two walks, and two HBP while driving home nine and scoring six times. Through 21 games, he slashes .290/.451/.580 as he's hit five home runs and collected 17 RBI.
 
NC State: Reaching base at a .500 clip this season, freshman outfielder Ty Head enters the midweek ranked seventh in the NCAA in drawn walks, earning 28 through 24 games. He posts a .274 average with six doubles and three home runs on the campaign while driving in 15. Of note, his 28 walks come against just nine strikeouts.
