CHARLESTON, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's basketball team fell 74-55 on Tuesday night to the College of Charleston.
 
The two teams appeared to be evenly matched in the first half as both teams traded points with the other. USC Upstate (0-1) stuck around and appeared to be hanging with the College of Charleston (1-0) going into the halftime break down 36-33. The Spartans youthfulness caught up with them in the second half as the Cougars began to pull away from USC Upstate.
 
Freshman guard Tommy Bruner (Columbia, S.C.) led the Spartans offense with 14 points in the contest. Brandon Martin (Miami, Fla.) was second on the team in points with 13 and he hauled in a team high eight rebounds in the contest.
 
Grant Riller led the Cougars with 26 points in the contest and Brevin Galloway contributed an even 10 points in the game. Sam Miller led the Cougars with 14 rebounds in the game as well.
 
The USC Upstate men's basketball team will hold their home opener on Friday evening against Truett-McConnell at 6 p.m. inside the G.B. Hodge Center. Season tickets and individual game tickets can be purchased online at www.upstatespartans.com.
