Track and Field Preview: Big South Conference Championships

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate indoor track and field returns to Blacksburg, Va. this weekend to compete in the 2020 Big South Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 28-29. The Spartans will be competing in 19 track events and eight field events between the men and women over the course of the two-day meet.
In the regular season, Tony Auguste won three events, broke two school records, and tied a school record. He won the weight throw twice and the shot put once. Jared Henderson also finished the regular season with three wins and pair of school records. Two of his wins came in the 60m while the other was in the 200m. Both athletes will compete in those four respective events this weekend.
Adanma Uzor was named Female Athlete of the Meet at last year's championships and will look to repeat as the triple jump champion. The reigning 60m champion Angelnique Bryant will also look to repeat. She was named last year's Big South Freshman of the Year.
Last Time Out
Indoor track and field's weekend at the Virginia Tech Challenge Feb. 21-22 was highlighted by a win, two school records, a tied school record, and 16 top-5 finishes. The squad also collectively set 25 personal bests.
On the men's side, Jared Henderson took home a win in the 60 meter dash with a time 6.81 seconds. Tony Auguste tied a school record in the weight throw with a third place toss of 18.86. Lucas Campbell ran a 1:28.15 600m, good enough for an Upstate school record and a seventh place finish. Jay Roberts ran the third best 1000m time in school history at 2:41.60 for fourth place.
On the women's side, Brittany Cox broke a school record in the 60m hurdles before breaking it again in the finals for a third place finish of 8.66. Allie Leavitt's runner-up finish of 3:10.54 in the 1000m was the third best time for that event in Upstate school history. Angelnique Bryant also picked up a runner-up finish with a 7.47 60m dash time.
Henderson and Bryant were named Big South Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track Athletes of the Week for the final week of regular-season competition.

The Spartans will kick off their outdoor season at the 49er Classic on March 20-21 in Charlotte, N.C.
