Upstate Competing in One of the Top Tournaments of the Season at the Hayt this Weekend

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's golf team is competing against a plethora of top talent across the country in this weekend's John Hayt Invitational "The Hayt" at the Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

The Spartans are coming off a recent loss in a one-on-one event against Wofford last weekend. The last time USC Upstate competed in a tournament they finished tied for 8th at the UNCW Seahawk Invite. Senior golfer Hunter Fry (Dacula, Ga.) won his first career tournament with a final score of 207 (-9). Fry defeated a pair of top-25 individuals and tied for the tournament lead in Par 3 scoring (-3). The senior also, recorded an Eagle and a team best 13 birdies in the event, on his way to his first Big South Golfer of the Week selection.

Freshman Max Dupree (Eatonton, Ga.) shot a 75 in the final round of the event to finish tied for 22nd, Jackson Lyons (Suffolk, Va.) recorded a low round of 74 to finish 49th overall. Parker Lewis (Inman, S.C.), Zander Briggs (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Parker Fain (Boiling Springs, S.C.) also participated in the event. Â Â Â

USC Upstate will compete against nationally ranked foes, No.1 Florida State, No. 3 Wake Forest, No. 11 Clemson, No. 14 Liberty, No. 23 South Florida, No. 26 North Florida, No. 30 Charlotte, No. 31 UAB, No. 33 Louisville, Jacksonville, Coastal Carolina, Central Florida, and Augusta.

Four of the nations top-10 individual golfers will be participating in the tournament, including the No. 1 golfer in the nation John Pak of Florida State and the No. 3 golfer in the nation Alex Fitzpatrick of Wake Forest.
